Your #1 is awesome! Stripped was a FANTASTIC album! Coldplay's Viva La Vida, Joss Stone, Adele and Kelly Clarkson are great too.

Growing up? The only pop music I remember listening to back in like 2nd grade was M2M BUT later I got more interested! hahah.

The one album that shaped my childhood and made me love and learn to deeply respect pop music was JoJo's debut album. So I guess that's the best album of my generation, in my opinion.

I can't really rank them but...
Whitney Houston - Whitney
Mariah Carey - Music Box/Butterfly
Huey Lewis (and the News) - Sports
TLC - Crazy/SexyCool and Fanmail
En Vogue - Funky Divas
*NSYNC - err, all of them
Christina Aguilera - Stripped

Dang, I feel old. Haha.

Oh my god, I use to be Obsessed with M2M. I bought the Pokemon soundtrack and they were on it with their song "Don't Say You Love Me" which was brilliant. JoJo's debut was undoubtedly fantastic. i actually prefer it to her second.

With your immaculate taste as always. You grew up in the '90s, I'm so jealous, seriously. You're list is great, I haven't checked anything by Sports but TLC, Whitney, En Vogue and of course Mariah are all brilliant. I'm not that much of a fan of Christina anymore, I wish she'd make another album like Stripped.

True. If you like 80's pop funk, you might like Huey Lewis. He was super popular in the 80's/90's. I'm sure you probably have heard at least one song without knowing it. ;) He was my mother's favorite, so you know -- whatever's playing in the house tends to make its way into your head. Haha. And grew up in the 90's...since the 90's feels so long ago ("Genie In A Bottle" was 10 years ago!) I can't help but feel old! haha!

OMG! "Heart of Rock and roll" song was him? wow, learn new thing everyday(or night) I love that song! '80s fuck actually truly rocks! How was it growing up in the '90s? I really wish I did, just for the music!

Mel said...

Haha! Yes! I've seen him in concert three times with my mother, and we met him once after the concert. He was so surprised that we recognized him because the concert was at a casino, so he just went out on the floor to gamble. Haha.

I'm a ride or die 80's girl, so I kind of wish I was around for that, until I started to appreciate the music that was on the radios when I was a "kid" so to speak. I couldn't really tell you. With the big pop revival (which is finally happening and isn't just on my iTunes), it doesn't feel too different, except all of the hip hop that's so popular today was switched out with real R&B and there was a lot more pop rock. What was the first album you ever bought?

And oh God - I totally forgot Soluna - For All Time. They were the real reason why I wanted to promote music. Sigh. Still love those girls, still talk to them. :)

I'm so sorry, I actually meant '80s funk not fuck lol. I'm always dying to know what it was like in the '90s and when I ask my mum she says the same thing at you that it wasn't that different, but looking back in my eyes--from all the videos and how every just seemed it just looked like a very cool decade to grow up in.

And the '80s! Whitney, Janet, Madonna = Bliss! why weren't we born earlier lol. Aw! Huey seems nice! I watched a live performance of him on YouTube after I read your comment, of "New Drug" in 1985, I think he's awesome and obviously you do too, since you saw him freakin' 3 times! lol.

The first album I bought was Oops!...I Did It Again - Britney Spears and I still own it lol, what was yours?

Huey is really underrated and a lot of people kind of think of him as a joke or a one hit wonder, but don't realize how many songs he had. Soooo nice in person. Haha. My favorite song has to be either "Heart and Soul" or "Heart of Rock and Roll", but I'm also quite partial to "Back In Time" because it was featured on my favorite TV show, Supernatural.

The first CD I ever owned was Janet's "Janet." when I was 6. haha. But the first one I bought with my own money was Hanson. Seriously. haha.

Do you have a Twitter?

J.Mensah said...

It's really annoying the good ones are always the ones that are underrated (Tynisha lol). I think "Rock and Roll" is my favorite too, I honestly swear to you--I've been singing this song for so long not even realizing it was Huey's. I have to check out "Heart and Soul" and "Back in Time."

Aw! the janet. album. 27 tracks of excellence. That album just doesn't seem to age, which do you like better out of Rhythm Nation, Velvet Rope or janet?

I don't have Twitter :( I was waiting until it caught on in the UK before I got it.

Mel said...

LOL - I will get to that Tynisha review (or semi-review or article or something)...hopefully sooner than later.

I was always partial to janet for that reason, and I still kind of tear up whenever I'm alone and hear "Again" (not sure why that is but that song just moves me) but Rhythm Nation is so my jam in itself so I love that record just for that song alone. Velvet Rope is amazing too but I'm more into the other two.

Trust me - Twitter is super addictive. The only annoying thing is you can only write so much in one "tweet", so the word restraint gets frustrating. To me at least.
